Abstract
Architecture, as one of the essential elements in defining the Neolithic period, has undergone extensive and complex changes and developments in various dimensions during the Neolithic process in the ancient East, each of which is an important research topic. One of the important fields of architecture that has not been considered in archaeological research on the Neolithic period in the Central Zagros of Iran, as one of the most important centers of the Neolithic process, is the study of architectural plans. The process of transition from circular to rectangular architecture is known as one of the most important characteristics of the Neolithic period in Southwest Asia in the Levant, Mesopotamia, and Anatolian basins. However, in the Central Zagros of Iran, despite the abundant archaeological study capacities and the existence of important Neolithic sites such as Tapeh Asiab, Sarab, Guran, Ganj Dareh, Abdul Hossein, Jani Abad, Sheikhi Abad, East Chia Sabz, and Kapargah, there is insufficient knowledge in this field. Archaeological evidence shows that the Central Zagros of Iran was part of the horizon basin of architecture with a round plan, which was replaced by architecture with a rectangular plan in the second stage of the Pre-pottery Neolithic. In this study, in order to understand the process of architectural changes and developments, and the drivers of these changes and developments during the Neolithic period in the Central Zagros of Iran, several important and ambiguous Context have been questioned, including: 1- What is the evidence of architecture with a round and rectangular plan in the Central Zagros Basin? What were the most important causes of the change in architectural plan from round to rectangular in the studied basin? Based on the results of this research, the change in architectural plan from round to rectangular was the result of numerous environmental, economic, and social considerations, and it is not possible to examine it by considering a single factor or driver.
