Abstract

In most villages of Bukan County during the Qajar and early Pahlavi periods, which were under the control of the Mukri Khans and the chiefs of the Gavarak, Dehbokri, and Feyzullah Beigi tribes, Mosques have been built, but no targeted archaeological investigation has been conducted to identify and conduct a coherent study that would introduce these types of buildings. Therefore, studying the old mosques of Bukan can help us understand the style and type of architectural decorations in this region. It is assumed that Bukan is one of the regions that has remained largely unknown in terms of architectural study and analysis, especially in the Islamic period. Understanding the architecture of this region can provide a deeper understanding of the state of Iranian architecture during the Islamic era. The old mosques of Bukan are comparable in terms of time and typology to other religious and residential spaces in Mukurian Kurdistan. The purpose of this article is to study and evaluate the subject under study and achieve desired results in order to answer these questions: 1. What patterns are the decorations and architectural style of the old mosques of Bukan city influenced by and follow? 2. What important cultural and social outcomes of their era do the study of the decorations and architectural style of the old mosques of Bukan reveal? Based on the results of field and library studies, the research findings indicate that the decorations and architectural style of the historical mosques of Bukan County were built in accordance with the mountainous climate of the region and the architectural patterns of other Kurdish-populated areas of Iran, including Mukurian Kurdistan. In addition, by studying the decorations and architectural style of the old mosques of Bukan, one can understand the religious vision, beliefs, and customs of the Bukan people in the later Islamic centuries, especially the Qajar and early Pahlavi periods.
