Urchin domes are one of the most important types of dome construction in Iran, along with Nur and Rok domes, which were the manifestation of a new structure and technology of their era. Some researchers point out that the origin of this type of dome goes back to the Seljuk era. So that the purpose of the research is typology and identification of changes in the geometry of Urchin Dome, along with answering the research questions. In this way, answering the questions "What factors played a role in the formation of the Urchin dome during the Seljuk period?" and "What is the course of changes in the factors affecting the formation of Urchin domes?" It is another aspect of conducting this research.
The research method in this study is descriptive and analytical, which was formed by examining the components affecting Seljuk architecture, and its effect on Urchin domes is explained. Then, they are analyzed by typology and classification of Urchin domes in a historical course. Based on the findings of the research, there are various components that have influenced the distribution of different types of Urchin domes and have been used as aspects related to Seljuk architecture. These components continued in the later periods and are a manifestation of preserving the values of the Seljuk period in the structure of the Urchin dome. The results show that Urchin domes, by preserving the features of Seljuk architecture, created the context of a new structure in this era, and in the following periods, preserving the essence, created various types of Urchin domes. These changes and transformations started from the Seljuk period and were mainly created with a simple nature compared to the periods after it. So that the peak of complex geometry in dome components can be related to the post-Seljuq period.
